Since 1983 GRCN is a non profit 501c3 organization has been using the arts to create social and behavioral change in at risk youth. Our children have been neglected abused and placed in group homes, foster care and probation institutions. Many of these agencies while well intended lack the ability to teach the social skills needed for a child to navigate through life once they become an adult.
Through performing arts our agency helps them develop these tools. However, due to the nations struggling economy and cut backs has resulted in many of our programs being discontinued.
While it may appear that we are just an art program on the out side it is clear that we are more that just that. Surveys have shown that children that take part in our workshops have reduced verbal out burst in class, reduced physical assaults on peers and adults and grades have improved.
Still politicians who are not participants in our program feel it is just an art program and can be pushed to the side.
